Alipore Zoological Gardens is India's oldest zoo, established in 1875 in the Alipore district of Kolkata — the former capital of British India. Covering 18.81 hectares in the heart of South Kolkata, it is home to over 1,100 animals from 108 species and occupies a unique place in Indian conservation history.
