The Mountain City's Beloved Wildlife Park
Chongqing Zoo is one of southwest China's most important and beloved zoos, located in the Jiulongpo district of Chongqing — China's largest municipality and the gateway to the Three Gorges. Founded in 1955, it covers 45 hectares of hilly terrain and houses over 4,000 animals from more than 200 species, with a celebrated giant panda collection that is among the finest in China.
🐼 Giant Pandas — Chongqing's Pride
Chongqing Zoo is world-renowned for its giant panda breeding programme, having bred over 100 giant pandas since the 1950s — making it one of the most productive panda breeding centres outside of Sichuan's specialised research bases. The panda enclosures here are spacious and naturalistic, with pandas almost always visible and active.
