The World's First SeaWorld Without Orca Shows
SeaWorld Abu Dhabi opened in May 2023 on Yas Island as the world's newest and most modern SeaWorld park — and the first SeaWorld outside the United States. Crucially, it is also the first SeaWorld in the world built without an orca programme, reflecting a shift in philosophy towards conservation education rather than theatrical animal performance. Covering 183,000 square metres across 6 themed realms, it is Yas Island's most recently opened major attraction.
🌊 Six Ocean Realms
The Arctic:
- Endless Oceans: Fly & Swim – Ride simulator over icy Arctic seas
- Beluga whales, walruses, and Arctic foxes in naturalistic habitats
The Open Ocean:
- Mako – High-speed roller coaster themed to shark hunting
- Shark lagoon with floor-to-ceiling viewing windows
The Tidal Reef:
- Abu Dhabi's largest marine aquarium — tropical fish, rays, and reef sharks
- Turtle Rescue Centre – Active marine turtle rehabilitation
The Endless Sea:
- Pipeline Surge – Roaring water coaster
- Wavebreaker – Inverted surf coaster
Discovery Bay:
- Interactive rockpool zones, sea lion presentations
- Sea Rescue Academy – Family education ride
Infinite Oceans:
- Beluga whale and dolphin habitat with educational presentations (no performance shows)
🐋 No Orca Programme
SeaWorld Abu Dhabi made international headlines as the first park in the franchise to open without killer whales, signalling a new direction focused on conservation, research, and education rather than theatrical orca performances.
