Saxony's Diverse Wildlife Sanctuary

Comprehensive Animal Collection Founded in 1964, Chemnitz Zoo began as a home animal park and has evolved into a comprehensive zoological facility housing around 1,300 animals from almost 250 species on 10 hectares. The zoo includes the Oberrabenstein wildlife park since 1995, expanding its conservation mission.

Unique European Vivarium The zoo's crown jewel is its vivarium, unique in Europe, housing over 80 species of amphibians in four temperature-controlled rooms. This exceptional facility provides insights into the diverse world of frogs, amphibians, and reptiles that can be found in few places worldwide.

Innovative Tropical House The impressive tropical house features a complete free-flight hall where bird species populate different vegetation layers according to their natural habits. This facility also houses pygmy hippos, meerkats, sloths, monkeys, reptiles, fish, and leaf-cutter ants in a lush tropical environment.

Conservation Leadership Chemnitz Zoo serves as a refuge for many rare and endangered species, participating in over 25 international breeding programs for endangered species preservation. The zoo actively collaborates with other institutions on various species conservation projects.
