Familiepark Harry Malter is a charming family park tucked away in the wooded surroundings of Heusden, near Ghent in the Belgian province of East Flanders. Set alongside a large lake where nature and tranquillity take centre stage, the park offers a wonderful mix of animal encounters and hands-on fun, making it one of the most popular family destinations in the region.
The park is home to over 100 different animal species, including meerkats, raccoons, coypu, ostriches, maras, camels and Shetland ponies. What sets Harry Malter apart is that visitors are allowed to walk freely through several animal enclosures, creating intimate and memorable wildlife encounters. Regular feeding sessions — including ones where children can participate — add to the experience. A traditional petting zoo with chickens, goats and deer welcomes guests right at the entrance.
Attractions are tailored specifically to toddlers and young children: a carousel, pirate boat, spinning globe, mirror house, and kabouterhuisjes (gnome houses) are just some of the highlights. All attractions are included in the entrance fee. A circus show has long been a beloved tradition at the park.
The park also features a spacious playground, a lakeside terrace and a self-service restaurant. Harry Malter is wheelchair accessible and offers affordable parking nearby.
