Unlike conventional zoos, Phnom Tamao is primarily a rescue and rehabilitation centre for animals confiscated from illegal wildlife trafficking — making it one of Southeast Asia's most ethically significant wildlife destinations.

🌿 Conservation Impact
Phnom Tamao works with Wildlife Alliance and international NGOs to rehabilitate animals for release where possible. The centre has successfully released sun bears, gibbons, and elephants back into Cambodia's forests — a genuine conservation success story.
🌴 Setting
The centre's vast forested setting, large enclosures, and visible commitment to animal welfare make it the most rewarding and ethically sound wildlife experience in Cambodia.
